Day 17: Self-isolating downward facing oldies
Everyone at our weekly yoga class loves our teacher, Natasha, she is
patient and understanding with us as we try to recreate positions
that in all fairness are mainly designed for contortionists or certainly people
about 50 years younger than we are. Natasha however is a ray of sunshine and
tells us we can do it anyway we like that is comfortable and within our own
limitations. Most of us choose to do the routines sitting down with a glass of
water in our hands - some choose not to do them at all!! When we do decide to stand up we are allowed to bring our
chair with us to lean on, it’s also useful to help us up when we eventually get
down on the floor. I’m really not sure if she’s being considerate or worrying
about litigation when we fall over.
However now we have the corona we do not have our yoga class but Natasha is now sending us newsletters which really translates into
exercises and once again impossible positions but without her in front of us demonstrating.
Now I start the day with some routines she has sent me. I decided the easiest
thing to do was to print out her instructions and pin them on my bedroom wall
so I could start each day with my ’10 minute energising practice to start my
day’. In theory this is fine so off I went cup of tea in hand as I thought it
would be simple enough. Well that didn’t work as I was deep breathing and
slopping tea down my PJs. So, started again – decided I couldn’t read the
instructions without my glasses. Pause to retrieve them. The first 2 exercises
went well but then I had to bend down and yes you guessed it the glasses fell
off and I couldn’t see again. This had now taken 20 minutes so decided that was
quite enough for the moment as I had to start my windows so feeling totally
energised off I went…..nope not done them, found something else to do instead.
She had also sent us a video so I decided this might be easier which in
fact it was, watching the young lady doing the exercises, I could follow that
quite easily, then there was a very lithe young man who I tried to emulate
without much success. He was worth watching though. I have done this online
class every day and thought I was doing so well until I got to today’s class which
was relaxation…..it then dawned on me that the whole video was just one class
and I had spread it out over a week. I promise I’ll try harder next week – sorry!
We received the second newsletter yesterday which promises a virtual
yoga class next week which I really don’t understand so maybe they’ll have to
virtually do without me or perhaps I could just watch. Not sure how it works as
we have to Zoom something? Who knows? Anyway we have yet another sheet which is
once again pinned up in the bedroom. This chart is more complicated as it is represented
by little stickmen in amazing positions but they all appear to have only one
leg so maybe I will think about the online thing after all, I am not chopping
my leg off for yoga, I fall over enough as it is.
Natasha have you thought about art/drawing classes during this pandemic?
Could be useful!
