Day 15: Silver linings
And no, the title does not refer to my emerging roots. Yet.
Rather, I fear I may have given the impression that in my opinion things aren’t necessarily all sunshine and roses, so I thought I’d try and find a few good things to say about our current situation.

This item will for obvious
reasons be a great deal shorter than recently but as I am running out of things
to talk about it’s probably for the best.
Can you even recall the
last time anyone mentioned Brexit? Despite the problems of the Corona it’s not
all bad.
If you’ve long despaired
about people swanning in and out of public loos without washing their hands,
then despair no more. We have had it rammed down our throats for so long now
that we have to get our hands nice and clean or be thrown out of society like a
modern day leper that finally Joe public has actually taken on board the fact that
personal hygiene is a necessity!
Eurovision has been
cancelled. This programme is never as hilarious as people say especially since the
demise of Terry Wogan who giggled his way through most of them whether sober or
not - only he would have known. The song that the UK choose is usually rubbish
and nobody gives us any points because we’re classed as a petulant child. This
year we will be spared all that ritual humiliation. The same also applies to all
sporting fixtures where we fall into the same category.
I read
recently that the world’s pollution problems are improving, the canals in Venice are as clear as
bottled water, the nitrogen levels in India are 50% down, and in Hong Kong pollution
from car exhausts has dropped 32%. Northern Italy in particular has had 40%
falls in nitrogen dioxide pollution due to the closures of its factories. One
expert was quoted as saying the shift represented the ‘largest scale experiment
ever’ in terms of the reduction of industrial emissions. This really does beg the question
just who and what is Greta Thunberg who said ‘act locally, think globally’? Well
I'm not being mean and I'm as keen as anyone else on protecting our planet but
suspicions must fall on this young lady and her powers. She has got what she
was bleating about but at what cost?
The
latest predictions are that the south of England will run out of water within
20 years but I think that’s going to be a lot sooner with the amount of
handwashing going on at the moment.
Being a lot older than you I have found it difficult to negotiate the many puzzles in subscribing to your blog Site! I needed a grandson here to help, but obviously that might be near on impossible for a few years yet ...So, please keep the blogs coming, it does brighten my day. PS: need to know, have you cleaned a window today ?
